Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate with a High School for Public Service Diploma, students must complete the New York State, New York City, and High School for Public Service graduation requirements, which include passing 44 Credits in the following courses:

  • 8 English Credits*

  • 8 History Credits*

  • 6 Mathematics Credits*

  • 6 Laboratory Science Credits*

  • 2 Foreign Language Credits*

  • 1 Art Credit

  • 1 Music Credit

  • 1 Health and Wellness Credit

  • 4 Physical Education Credits*

  • 7 Credits In Elective Courses (Any Academic Subjects)

The High School for Public Service has the following additional credit expectations for a total of 52 Credits:

  • 2 additional Mathematics Credits*

  • 2 additional Laboratory Science Credits*

  • 4 additional Foreign Language Credits*

  • 200 Hours of Community Service

* Credits are awarded on a semester basis. For example, passing both semesters of ninth grade English would give to a student two credits for English. *

 

Promotional Requirements

  • Promotion from Grade 9 to Grade 10 - The student has earned a minimum of eight credits.

  • Promotion from Grade 10 to Grade 11 - The student has earned a minimum of twenty credits, including four credits in Global History and four credits in English.

  • Promotion from Grade 11 to Grade 12 - The student has earned a minimum of thirty credits, including four credits in Global History and six credits in English.

 

Types of Diplomas:

Regents Diploma: All 5 Regents Exams must be passed with a 65 or higher.

College Ready: ELA exam score above 75, Algebra exam score above 80.

Advanced Regents Diploma: All 5 Regents exams must be passed with a 65 or higher, and student must pass the following additional Regents exams with a 65 or higher: Geometry, Advanced Algebra/Trigonometry, Language Other Than English (LOTE) and a 2nd Science exam.

Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors: The average of all the scores on Regents exams required for the Advanced Regents diploma must be equal to or greater than 90.
